Study Title: MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Pisa, 2009 (summa cum laude)

Full Story:  I can only sing the praises of the Computer Engineering program; I haven’t ever had problems finding a job, either in Italy or abroad.

I did my MSc thesis at Ericsson Research labs in Stockholm, on Metropolitan Ethernet networks. After majoring I had not a clear idea of what I would like to do or where to work, so I took to making as many experiences as possible, relying on the very good preparation that I had received. I won a research scholarship on software engineering at the CNR in Pisa. During my stay there, I received many offers from local and abroad industries, and sat for several interviews with those that I thought were the best ones. In October 2010 I left for Sydney, where I was hired as a freelancer by a consulting firm that developed web-based applications for sales and inventory. In January 2012 I left for Toronto. I applied for and won a research scholarship at the University of Toronto, with the software engineering group.

I don’t know what I will be doing one year from now. However, given everything we’ve been taught, the future does not worry me at all. The skills that have been most appreciated are practical ones: with all the term projects that we have done, we are perfectly capable of getting to grips with someone else’s code, projects or architectures, so as to personalize and improve them.
