Study Title: MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Pisa, 2006 (summa cum laude)

Full Story: I live in the Silicon Valley, where I work as a Chief Technical Officer for Gild.com, a VC-backed enterprise in California, of which I am also a shareholder, that deals in IT professional recruiting. I am quite active in the web/mobile startup company community, as both an entrepreneur and an advisor. I often give invited talks at technical conferences on Cloud Computing, NoSQL, and Virtualization.
My studies have culminated in a Master thesis on WiMAX, performed in collaboration with Nokia. This gave me the opportunity of a first professional experience abroad, which was fundamental for my subsequent choices. The internship in Nokia opened many doors when looking for a first job fresh out of graduation.
Few days after graduating I accepted an offer from ION Trading as a software developer. After a year I moved to Vodafone Global in Dusseldorf, Germany. This experience is the one that has given me the most in professional terms. I was called to manage a small team of developers for a pilot-project in the area of Social Networks. Within few months the project exploded into a multi-million budget one, with 350 developers in five countries. This opportunity allowed me to expand my expertise, with a crash course into people management, marketing, product development and budgeting, as well as to know and get acquainted with exceptional professionals in manifold areas.
I left Vodafone in 2010 to start two companies: Mikamai Mobile, that creates mobile applications for smartphones, and Coderloop, a web platform to automatically test the informatics prowess of developers and systems analysts. After 18 months of activity, Coderloop has been acquired by the Gild group, where I am currently working.
The Silicon Valley is the most competitive area in the world for IT engineers and professionals. I routinely interact with Standford and Berkley graduates, and I can easily say that the expertise given by the Computer Engineering course in Pisa is comparable to that of the most high-profile American universities.
The IT world is in constant and rapid evolution. The study course in Computer Engineering gives you very solid bases, as well as means to keep in pace with innovation. Almost every skill acquired in the course, from theoretical to applied ones, have been put to use at some time within my professional career, and often made the difference against other products or competitors.
